Pets in Hebrew

  • Dog-כֵּלֵב-[kelev]
  • Cat-חַתוּל-[chatul]
  • Fish-דָג-[dag]
  • Turtle-צַב-[tsav]
  • Hamster-אוֹגֵר-[oger]
  • Rabbit-אַרנָב-[arnav]

And “puppy” is

כְּלַבְלַב (klavlav), while “kitten” is

חֲתַלְתּוּל (chataltul)—note that that’s the hard “ch” sound, as in “Chanukkah”—Hebrew diminutives and cutesy nicknames just take a couple consonants and double them.

Ahhhhhhhh these are so cute and lovely 🙂

I did not know the word for hamster!

… ironically perhaps, hamster is also the only one of these critters I don’t have a regular tag for
