We always hear about how fat people are at higher risk for DVTs after surgery, yet every time I’ve had surgery, they either didn’t have larger size compression stockings at all, or they didn’t fit properly because they were for someone taller, not fatter. So am I at higher risk for a DVT because I’m fat, or because I don’t get the same preventative treatment as thin patients? These are questions people should think about when they talk about fatness being correlated with poor health outcomes.
