Unpopular Jewish opinion: I would rather see “Merry Xmas” than “Happy Winter Holidays” or the like on stuff that’s otherwise explicitly xmassy. If you’re gonna have pictures of decorated pine trees labeled “holiday tree” and red-nosed reindeer and stuff like that, it’s actually more irritating than just honestly calling it xmas because I guarantee you no one is fooled by it, and we’re not interested in giving you points for inclusivity when it’s not. It makes it look like the part we object to is the word itself, or seeing other people celebrate their holidays, which is not the reason at all. It makes our efforts to remind people that not everyone celebrates the same holidays looks absurd and ridiculous and it does much more harm than good. Either do a generic winter scene, include symbols of other holidays, or just be honest about your xmas exclusivity and own up to the fact that you don’t actually give a shit beyond the basic, most patronizing level of lip service.
yeah imagine a decorative cookie tin with a dozen jewish guerilla fighters slaughtering a war elephant and it says ‘merry winter wishes, goyim!’ and actually come to think of it this would be rad as hell but it wouldn’t be very “””inclusive”””
unpopular jewish opinion but im also about 300% done with hannuka merch daintily tiptoeing around the fact that we’re celebrating a military victory? gimme sweaters with hammers and blood and fire on them. gimme cookies in the shape of my enemies. of all times and places, now would be a great time for jews to remind our home nations just how many genocides we’ve survived
@teachimera came home the other day really excited about these chocolates he found, which are the complement to enemy cookies:
“They have little shields, Stanley! Little swords! The little swords make me happy.”
