Please, NEVER describe death camps as polish. There’s a couple of zionist activist, who try to do it, but their behavior is wirng. Death camps were in Poland but weren’t polish. Poland was the victim of nazi occupation and then, after the war, Poland was the victim of soviet occupation.I know there’s a lot of people who are not into history that much but this issue is so important for Poland. We don’t want to be seen as nazis. I know there was a lot if awful, inhuman acts as the Jedwabne pogrom, and there were antisemic people in pre war Poland but Poland, as a nation and country, NEVER came up with the idea of creating the death camps, and never agreed with nazi ideology.

(obviously they were indeed conceived by german nazis, and i personally tend to just call them “nazi death camps” regardless of where they were or who pulled the levers/triggers. but this law isn’t about that, it’s about erasing the, yes, complicity of the very large number of polish people who were at the very minimum pleased to get rid of us)

Things Poland did before the Nazis invaded:
1910′s: hundreds of Jews murdered in pogroms
1936: Small businesses are required to display the owner’s name as written on their birth certificate with the goal of exposing Jewish businesses
1937: – Universities cut the number of Jews allowed in in half – Jews could no longer become doctors – Poland debates deporting Jews to Madagascar – (all of this happened before the Nazis invaded)
1938: Germany ejects all Jewish Poles in Germany and sends them back to Poland. Poland refuses to accept its own citizens and sends them back to die (but sure, Poland wasn’t complicit at all BEFORE they were invaded…)
Also 1938: Poland rescinds passports for any Jew who has been out of the country for 5 years for any reason, rendering them stateless (Poland probably pulled this shit so they had an excuse for the bullet above this one)
1939: Official government put out a statement about the “Jewish Question” and how agreement with Nazis about Jews didn’t mean that Poles should like Nazis (exact quote: “The fact that our relations with the Reich are worsening does not in the least deactivate our program in the Jewish question…“)
What was “the program in the Jewish question” anyways? See up there, that bit about deporting Jews to Madagascar? Yeah, Poland wanted to deport it’s entire Jewish population – that was nearly 3.5 million people. Polish government – not Nazi government – was trying to rid itself of it’s Jewish population, just like Germany! And guess what! Before Hitler decided to murder us, he first discussed the idea of mass deportation instead! He was for it at one point! Sounds a lot like Poland was only a step behind the Nazis in how they were treating their Jews and what was going to happen to Jews in Poland anyway!

Per the Polish Institute for National Remembrance, 22 other similar pogroms also took place in Poland, by Poles. Polish pogroms. Not Nazi pogroms. Polish.
In conclusion: Poland was absolutely complicit in destroying its Jewish population as it had started working on doing such a thing years before the Nazis ever invaded. So fuck you, fuck Poland, and fuck the rewriting of history to ease your guilty conscious.
