I know… but I am afraid to leave multiple comments when I re-read, for fear of being thought a spammer.

I have been lucky enough in recent months to have not one, not two, but THREE people go back and reread a fic of mine and comment every chapter for a second time! Every single one of those people got effusive replies from me and every single one made me grin like a fool until my face hurt 🙂

comments are 100% the opposite of spam. They are precious emails that get saved and reread like love letters in an Edwardian romance

Honestly, you could claim to be a Nigerian prince or try to sell me penis enhancing pills, and I would still get all heart-eyed at your comment.

You could leave your comment over the course of my entire fic, one word at a time, and I still wouldn’t think of it as spam. In fact, I would try to guess what you were about to say.

You could leave YouTube links to songs you listened to while you read each chapter. That’s not spam. That’s a playlist. And you would gift me a goddamn playlist. OMG. Why don’t people do that more often?!

You could copy and paste your favorite line or word with absolutely NO CONTEXT and I will high-fucking-five you as a reply. Haha, she said “boloney pony”.

You could share a picture of the tea and cookies you inhaled while you read my fic. I wanna see and I wanna share. Still not spam!

I will say that, however, repeating “update” over and over again, is kind of annoying and borders on spammy simply because you are rudely ordering the author around. You wouldn’t do that in any other situation …

At Starbucks: “DRINK!”

At home: “FOOD!”

With your spouse: “NAKED!”

Ok, that last one you might do …

Point is … assume all authors want to hear from you. The whole point of all these blogs about comments is because authors are starved for feedback.

(but please don’t try and convert me to a different religion in the comments or tell me fanfiction is sin…that will never go over well)
