Do you have any special recommendation for YA Fantasy?

drogonqueen:

yeah! these are books i’ve personally read and enjoyed

the inheritance cycle by christopher paolini — game of thrones meets avatar: the last airbender with some lord of the rings thrown in. the dragons are sentient!!! my absolute favorite series as a teenager.

the grisha trilogy by leigh bardogo — set in a quasi-russian world, and again a bit like avatar, with a certain number of people being able to control different elements. while i wasn’t a huge fan of the ending, the world building was beautiful and has one of my favorite characters in ya lit!

the cruel prince by holly black —faeries!! what more can i say tbh. betrayal, royalty, and family set in a beautiful world so different than our own. the protagonist (if you can even call her that) is wonderful as well

the lunar chronicles by marissa meyer — a bit more dystopian in nature, set in the future where cyborgs live beside us and “aliens” have been discovered. each novel has a bit of a twist on a traditional fairytale (book one is cinder, with a plot that reminds one of cinderella) and again a complex world with great characters

the iron fey by julie kagawa — if you haven’t noticed, i have a bit of a thing for the fae. set in our modern world,  the unseelie and seelie courts exist in hidden pockets one has to be looking for to find. a great modern fantasy series, with a decent spinoff as well

books i haven’t read yet, but are on my tbr list and come highly recommended by friends

the ghost bride by yangsze choo

wintersong by s jae-jones

jade city by fonda lee

Inheritance Cycle plagiarized a shit-ton from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, right down to people, place names, and specific plot twists.
