adults, while forcing all children above the age of 5 to sit still, be silent, and obey orders for 7-8 hours a day with minimal breaks, reducing their exposure to fresh air and sunlight to almost nothing, forcing them to alter their natural sleeping patterns to increase productivity, and repeatedly telling them their self worth depends on their being able to follow these instructions perfectly for 13 or more years: kids these days are so lazy! they never go outside! they never want to do anything! clearly it’s not because of us!

The way we treat children is extremely inhumane, but so many adults want to dismiss it because it’s so normalized

You… You do realize that’s what it’s like to be a working adult…? And our days are even longer.

thats because an 8 hour work day is extortion and should be illegal. next question.

Either you’ve never had a job or you’re just lazy af. There’s nothing wrong with 9 to 5 jobs. Nobody is forcing people to work them and people need the hours to make more money. People get breaks too.

Please take a biology class & get some help. People shouldnt have to do work 80% of the day to survive.

@captainjack1999

1. the eighthour work-day is cruelty

2. capitalism is forcing people to work. i could just quit my job and hang out at home – but then i would lose my house and most likely starve to death, because of the way our economy works.

3. breaks for most establishments are a mere 30 minutes for an 8-hour shift; at my first job, for a 6-hour shift, your break would only be 15 minutes and any longer shift would only get 30. studies say people are more productive if for every hour you work, you get a 15-minute break – meaning, for an 8-hour shift, you’d need an hour-long break, and so on and so forth.

the way modern society views work is unhealthy for loads of reasons, not just what i mentioned here. the fact that we’re preparing children for such a torturous lifestyle is horrific.

Also like…. small children are not adults. Small children should not be held to the same standards as adults. Even if the 8 hour work day WAS healthy, it would be inhumane to hold a small child to the same standard.

The school system was literally designed to train people for factory work back when child labour was legal so that should tell you how fucked that is

also kids still gotta do their homework, so 8 hours is the minimum. without homework.

Youse have never been in a kindy class since you were literally in kindergarten, have you.

Most of what they do in the early years of school is hands on. Singing and moving around and finger painting and stuff. Teachers are trained in child development, you think we don’t know that kids can’t sit still, and don’t learn well from being forced to?

buddy.
i dont know where you live but whatever conditions kids live in whereever that is are not universal. and tbh, even if the little kids in your country/city/school arent treated this awfully, you may want to do some research into what 8am classes and school in general do to teenagers.
we do a lot of developing during our teens and most school systems actively fuck us over and limit our develpment.

Class begins at 9:15. All students to be in by 9:00.

A twenty minute assembly is the first thing to happen. Every day. Monday to Friday.

Children line up in the classroom and march to the hall. Sit in rows set up from youngest year to oldest.

Silent as the grave.

No whispering. No shouting. No fidgeting.

Pulled out and made to wait in the hall outside if you break the rules.

Twenty minutes of information that means nothing to a 6 year old, never mind an 11 year old. Prayers and daily affirmations.

Then it’s back to class.

Marching down the halls.

Sit down by 9:30, first class begins.

Maybe it’s math today. Or it could be science.

An hour of addition, of biology, of spelling.

If you’re lucky it’s art and you can draw and make some noise.

Group work is segmented and structured. Only those on your table to work with. No one is allowed to leave the table.

Put your hand up to go the toilet.

Put it down if you’re told no.

No more than three children can leave the classroom during the hour.

Break is at 11:00. Its only fifteen minutes.

Outside.

If it’s raining, you’re in the classroom.

Not allowed to ruin riot or do what you want.

Sit quietly and eat your snacks.

No mess to clean up after unless you ask nicely.

Very nicely.

Lunch is 12:00.

Line up in the classroom. March to the hall. Wait in line to get your food.

If you’re lucky your family can afford packed lunches for you.

If not, enjoy the free school dinner of balanced nutrition and bland flavour.

An hour tops for lunch.

Then it’s back to the regime.

More class. More math.

P.E. is most likely after lunch. Heavens know why.

To make you exhaust those calories fast and stunt your growth maybe?

3:00 is the end of day. Or 3:15.

Another assembly for those last fifteen minutes. What is the point? Obedience training, of course.

Line up in the classroom. Coats and jackets, book bags, and P.E. kits.

Freedom only past the school gates.
