What was the whole point of the bond of blood charm if Harry spends 10 months out of the year OUTSIDE of the Dursley home? Correct me if I’m wrong, but that was the entire deal of the charm, which kind of renders the thing pointless because, again, he’s not in that house for the majority of the year. It’s made clear in OotP that the bond of blood prevents harm from coming to Harry as long as he was in his relatives’ home. Key phrase here being “as long as he was in”.
I’m even going to quote from the damn wiki in case I’m wrong:
This charm prevents any harm from coming to the beneficiary from the murderer while they are in a blood-related relative’s home.
There it is in black and white. Written in (coded) stone. Before our very eyes.
And ok I get it, the whole point of this useless charm was to give an excuse for Harry to remain with the Dursleys for the angst™️, but it’s such a glaring problem that is actually kind of stupid. If the whole point of the charm is that it protects Harry from Voldemort’s possible assaults on him as long as he stays with the Dursleys, in their home, then why the hell not keep him there and homeschool him or something, rather than bring him to Hogwarts and risk him being killed every ten months of the year?
It would be really interesting if the blood protection DID prevent Vernon/Petunia/Dudley from harming Harry. Verbal abuse? Tongue-tied. Physical abuse? The same wounds appear on the abusers. Locked in the cupboard? It ejects him.
