A bit of Chapter 2
[…] For a moment Octavius did not know what to say. To think his friend… knew. It angered him that he’d been so easily found out. It showed how little control he actually had over his own thoughts and actions the past year – or more. There was no balm that could soothe the burning shame that crept up his neck, reddening his cheeks. Oh, Brutus had been wise to stray from him a moment ago. He wanted to strangle the man for his audacity to call his superior out like this. “You’re mocking me.”, Octavius said. “You dare mock me.”
Brutus who, despite his jabs and braggin, still had a lot more common sense left within him than one might think, was quick to raise his hands to surrender. “A friendly jest! You know me, my general. I meant no harm.”
Which was not the answer Octavius wanted to hear. “You and your jests do not amuse me today, Brutus. You would do well to guard your tongue.” […]
