You ask me, the #1 hater of Daeron II, why he would do something regarding my most relatable character? Well, ok anon. I’ve had the flu since Monday eve and I’ve been sick in bed ever since, so it’s not as if I have anything better to do.
My interpretation of Daeron II’s character comes from Doran Martell: he puts what he thinks is politically advantageous over the feelings of his “family” (not that he ever treated Daemon, Aegor, or even Daenerys and Brynden Rivers like true family members, but they are still blood-related to him). In this case, he was already paranoid that a child his oldest son’s age was going to undermine his authority, so instead of keeping Daemon close, he decided to wed him off at 14 and expel him from the only home he ever knew. I assume he brought Aegor to court because he thought it would undermine Daemon further; both Brynden and Aegor got to stay at court, showing that he “favored” them just as Aegon IV “favored” Daemon, and it isolated Daemon from any potential blood allies found there. However, Daeron still obviously had a grudge toward the Brackens because he didn’t apologize for his and his father’s barbaric treatment of the sisters (which would have gone a long way in convincing me he really was a kind and just man wanting to reform Aegon IV’s reign of terror). He didn’t even give Aegor a steady position and made no efforts to stop his anti-Bracken court from making Aegor feel unwelcome there (Daeron is such a Feminist™ that he refused to offer recompense to the son and nephew of two of his father’s teenage rape victims). Daeron just thought that Daemon’s potential rebellion was more important than his disproportional dislike of the Brackens, so he invited Aegor to court with no intention of actually acknowledging the wrongs he and his father committed against him. And that’s really a microcosm of his reign to me: he does what he thinks is best for his faction without addressing why other people were upset with him, and then doesn’t bother to listen to those people when they are willing to tell him why they’re upset. He didn’t mean well at all in bringing over Aegor.

stannis has prob been accidentally hurtful to shireen by being too honest abt her artwork like hwen she draws smt when she’s real little hes like “i cant tell what that is.” and also when she asks him to color with her hes very like, Horses arent blue. but he accepts it if she’s like “they are if they’re MAGIC horses” (’he’s like “i dont know enough about magic horses to dispute that”’ -thrace)
also kitty patchface is a big ol calico n when shireen introduces him stannis is like “all calicos are female” and shireen’s like “this one’s a boy, i can tell” and stannis probably wants to argue but davos just puts his hand on stannis’s arm and says patchface is a Handsome Lad but he takes that back later bc kitty patchface freaks him the Fuck out bc he hides in the bathroom and stares at you while you do ya business and he also wanders around the house at night meowing and davos says his meows sound human. whenever kitty patchface stares at davos too long he surreptitiously crosses himself when shireen isnt looking
