“Muslims forced to drink alcohol and eat pork in China’s ‘re-education’ camps, former inmate claims ‘The psychological pressure is enormous when you have to criticise yourself, denounce your thinking,’ says detainee”
Bad: Aliens who are bewildered by basic aspects of human society like cooking food and wearing clothes, implying that no similar practices exist anywhere else in the universe.
Good: Aliens who regard human society as largely unremarkable, but if questioned it rapidly becomes apparent that their understanding of the motive and purpose of various human cultural practices is subtly yet bizarrely askew.
“Ah, I see you have placed a simple lock upon the lavatory door for when you are… eliminating waste. I understand.”
“Thank you, Zazar…”
“You wish to make it harder for your enemies to ambush you during a moment of vulnerability. Very clever!”
“Wait, what?!”
That’s basic level what about more like:
“You’ve spent quite a long time cooking that meal, Human Jan.”
“Yeah, well, it’s been a while since I’ve had home-cooked food and there’s really no substitute, you know?”
Zorzr nods, then looks around and leans in close.
“I’m glad to have someone who understands. I suspect some of the other crew look down on my kind for consuming heated matter instead of thermo-regulating. But I’ve never thought about caring so much about the form of the heated matter before! We shall be great friends, Human Jan!”
“Uhh, actual– yeah, you know what, sure. We sure will.”
“Painting your mouth and nails in such a bright red is brilliant idea.”
“Thank you!”
“We never even considered painting such warning-colours on our carapaces to deter predators!”
I mean, if “men are fucking awful and being with women is overall both safer and more pleasant” were their rationale then I’d believe it, but they’re making it about boners, which is just pathetic.
in 1994 when green day first became famous, they invited pansy division, an openly gay punk band, to open for them for the entire dookie tour knowing full well the responses would be mixed. in 2016/2017, on their revolution radio tour, green day chose only female led punk bands to open for them to help create recognition for these artists in a male dominated scene. this band has always been using their voices for the right reasons and i love them so much for that.
And Against Me! Is opening for them too! A band fronted by a trans woman! Fuck yeah Green Day
If I’m not mistaken, there was a prom somewhere that was cancelled one time because a lesbian couple wanted to go, so Green Day rented a venue and had a prom for them. Not sure about accuracy, my mom told me about that
yes this is true as well!! green day helped to fund and organize this second prom when the first one was cancelled. the second prom was actually open not only to the students of the school, but also to any other lgbtq+ students as well as supporters in the state of mississippi who wanted to attend as well!!
This exemplifies how do to representation right. Being a straight ally doesn’t mean creating things for LGBT+ people. Its about giving those who are already creating a better stage.
That’s me and I need a breast reduction. I wear a bra size 32F, something not commonly found anyplace you can pick a bra up for less than $70. My breasts weigh me down, they are tender and painful at all times, and they give me extreme back, neck, and shoulder pain. Add all of this to the dysphoria I feel as a butch nb lesbian, and you can see why I desperately need a breast reduction.
Unfortunately, my insurance will not provide any kind of pre-approval, even to tell me for sure that they would not cover this procedure. My surgeon feels that, going by the stated guidelines for my insurance regarding these procedures, they would be very unlikely to cover the costs, and I would only find out either way after billing insurance for my surgery after the fact. If they did not accept my claim – which they likely would not – I could be left with a bill of around $50,000 in medical fees. Obviously, I can’t afford this. However, if I bill my procedure as cosmetic and pay for it myself, it would only cost $8,165.
Regardless, I don’t have the money either way. I just got hit with a huge vehicle repair bill recently which drained me of $3,000. Given another few years, I could probably get that money back and even pay for my procedure, but that would destroy my life savings ever since graduating high school in 2013. As much as I feel I need this surgery, not only to ease my physical symptoms but to calm my dysphoria, I can’t justify that extreme depletion of my savings for both school and my future in general.
I’m hoping to reach my goal this summer, by the end of August. I don’t honestly know if that’s possible, but I hate the thought of entering a new year of life as a 24 year old, stuck with the same painful chest. I can’t run, clothes that fit properly are hard to find, and every time I glance in the mirror I’m reminded of the literal burden I carry. I really can’t overstate how dysphoric my chest makes me. I can’t even wear a binder because of the disproportionate nature of my chest. I’ve tried everything I could think of to minimize my chest, from making binders myself from old shirts to trying transtape (which would probably work for someone with a more proportional chest, but again, I’m cursed so it doesn’t work for me) to just layering as much as possible. None of these are viable long term solutions, nor do they do anything to address the physical pain I endure. Please consider donating, or at least sharing with your friends! Also, forgive the deadname and vague generalizations at the link – I’m not out in every context and I want to spread this as far as I possibly can. For everyone who donates, any size donation is helpful and I appreciate you all! For everyone who shares, thank you so much for bringing visibility to my fundraiser!
Like another reason people are starting to crack down on certain fandom behaviors is because of how it affects real people. Daisy Ridley deleted her social media accounts because of the daily harassment she faced from certain fans. Lauren Faust, who started the new MLP show, also deleted her twitter because of the same problem. Hell, I remember when Twilight was a thing, Robert Pattinson had to deal with random girls trying to kiss him.
A lot of people think that just because it’s fandom, no one is getting hurt and that’s a problem.
