90% of eating disorders begin with a diet.

30% of all diets end in an eating disorder.

99% of dieters gain back all the weight and more.

Yo-yo dieting increases your chance of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and early death.

Diets are dangerous. Say no to diet culture.

okay but we need to address how the fear-mongering around ‘obesity’ is absolutely linked to eating disorders. this all hurts fat people the most and we don’t need to put being fat in a category of all the bad things that can happen if you diet. fuck that.

I believe this, but I’d love to see a primary source.

hi! just jumping in on the welding train: so, I’m a community college student, and I’m studying philosophy, like an idiot. my classmates in the humanities and I have no idea what we’re going to get to end up doing for a living. OTOH, my classmates who are electrical engineers, dental hygienists, and yes, specifically welders, are the ones who have employers waiting for them with open arms. seriously, one guy had a manager at a plant helping him with a calculus graduation requirement, even.

the thing IS, even though humanities and the liberal arts don’t lead to money, i think it’s incredibly important for there to be people out there studying these things, keeping them alive and current. philosophy, art, history, literature: these are the things that make being human more than just an animal slog from birth to death. these things are invaluable.

unfortunately, late stage capitalism means that the ultrarich want to turn everyone else into peasants, and deny them any beauty or meaning or education or dignity, and thus the humanities and liberal arts are called worthless, funding for them is slashed, and there’s less and less jobs that make any use of them. it’s bullshit, but that’s how it is right now.

so… tl;dr: learn humanities, THEN learn welding. get a cool job and be a well-rounded citizen at the same time!

“the ultrarich want to turn everyone else into peasants, and deny them any beauty or meaning, and thus the humanities and liberal arts are called worthless, funding for them is slashed, and there’s less and less jobs that make any use of them.”

This is what I was trying to say, guys.

Not “elitists don’t exist.”

Not “you have to like High Art to be a person.”

THIS. Right here.

@aquilea-of-the-lonely-mountain sent me lovely things because my @mithril-and-acorns giftee was a no-response. Here’s a transcript of the lovely card:

“Dear [Seas],

A very enjoyable part of gift-giving is seeing the reaction on the other’s face…and that’s why I got these key necklaces! One is for you, the other for whomever you like! So you will also get to see a happy donee. 🙂

Yours, Aquilea/[Name].”

The silver one is now the property of @wikdsushi and I’m wearing the gold one – and they’re LOCKETS!!!! Cat photos will totally go inside at some point. Also, there’s candy!

Thank you so much, Aquilea! You’re the best!
