I’ve just finished a bunch of knitting projects and also realized two things just now: a) setting up an Etsy shop’s going to be hard as fuck, and b) I don’t even know if it’ll be successful without a trial run. However, I really, REALLY want to go to the big Middle Earth con next year (MagicCon).
So I’d like to announce that I will be opening up KNITTING COMMISSIONS!
You can see some examples of my work here, along with sample prices (I will provide the names of the patterns).
The pattern is called Balin. I spent six months making this and I had to majorly simplify the pattern, so if you wanted something like it, I’d charge at least $1000 (plus cost of the yarn if you wanted something I don’t have in my stash). This is the high-end stuff that no one will buy, but I figured I’d put it first because it looks cool. 😀
Fancy socks (like these ones I made for @bookhoor), would be $50+, while plain ones made of thin yarn on tiny needles like that would be $40+. Worsted-weight socks good for wearing in bed on a cold night would be $25+. The pattern for these is called Owlie Socks.
A simple sweater, or one with minimal colorwork like this one, would be $90-150+. (Remember, good knitting lasts a REALLY LONG TIME, much longer than machine knitting!) This pattern is called Whiteleaf.
Simple hat: $15+. (This is from when I wasn’t very good at knitting yet.) Pattern: Fitted Seed Stitch Hat.
Fancy hat: $25+. This one is called the Alseid Hat, and I’m putting it under a cut at the end of the post because it’s a gift for someone who follows me.
Logistics:
– I will work with you over PM, Skype, or Gmail to choose from the patterns I have available to me (I have hundreds!).
– If possible (and it’s usually possible, because a lot of these designers are online), I will ALWAYS ask permission of the designer to sell the project to you so that we don’t run into any legal snafus.
– I can design some simple things myself.
– I will charge by amount of time/yarn needed, but will do so incrementally (like by $5-10) and will not solely charge plus-size wearers. I’ll also make my starting size reasonable.
– I often test knits on myself, ex. hats and socks, before I wash them.
Scarf: simple $30+, complex $50+ (like this one, pattern here)
If you look closely, it has gold beads!
I will consider design work on a case-by-case basis. If you would like me to design part or all of a piece of knitting, the prices will increase somewhat.
I have also recently come into possession of a LOT of good-quality, bulky-weight wool that would look fantastic on anyone who likes Hobbity colors. Want a hat? Let me know! 🙂
Reblogging again ‘cause my tax refund is not what I thought it was gonna be, and moving is expensive.
I’ve finally found words for why I hate Tywin Lannister so much: he’s a rape-minded, murderous asshole with delusions of grandeur like many of the other men in Westeros (as others have pointed out), but he manages to hide that behind a veneer of competence because he’s surrounded by fellow rape-minded, murderous assholes who also happen to have idiotic delusions of grandeur and are louder about it.
This Tuesday, The Satanic Temple will be arguing their case in front of the Missouri Supreme Court after convincing an appeals court that the state’s mandatory 72-hour waiting period before having an abortion violates their religious freedom.
The Temple is taking up the case of a member they refer to as “Mary Doe,” who claims the law goes against her religious beliefs. The woman contends that back in May of 2015, she was forced to view an ultrasound of her fetus and required to read a booklet that stated life “begins at conception.”
All of this was forced upon her despite the fact that she “adheres to principles of the Satanic temple and has sincerely held religious beliefs different from the information in the informed consent booklet,” according to her case summary.
“Specifically, her letter advised she has deeply held religious beliefs that a nonviable fetus is not a separate human being but is part of her body and that abortion of a nonviable fetus does not terminate the life of a separate, unique, living human being,” the case summary stated according to NBC News.
The Satanic Temple’s Jex Blackmore says Mary Doe’s religious freedom is being trampled upon.
“The State has essentially established a religious indoctrination program intended to push a single ideological viewpoint,” Blackmore said in a statement. “The law is intended to punish women who disagree with this opinion.”
“Missouri’s state-mandated informed consent booklets explicitly say that life begins at conception, which is a nonmedical religious viewpoint that many people disagree with,” his statement continued. “Forcing women to read this information and then wait 72-hours to consider the State’s opinion is a clear violation of the Establishment Clause.”
Although the state disagreed with the Temple’s assessment, a Missouri appeals court found merit in the Temple’s argument and agreed to let the case go the Missouri Supreme Court and even commented on the urgency of the case’s constitutional implications.
*starts handing out bags of popcorn* Oooooh, this gonna eat up the pro-lifers…
Satanists hold the line
May the Lord’s and Ladies of reason and wisdom bless them and their efforts.
