“We spoke with representatives of two major police forces in jurisdictions that have experienced the legalization of marijuana — the Denver Police Department and the Seattle Police Department — and both vigorously disputed the argument presented by Buffett and Lerner.
“On the claim that these animals are “trained not to be social” and therefore unable to be cared for after their service, a spokesperson for the Denver PD told us via e-mail that their dogs are not trained against being social:
We actually want them to be people friendly, it puts people at ease around the dogs and this leads to more effective deployments. We have had instances where our handlers are a little too friendly with the dogs while they are at home, and this can impact effectiveness. The reason is, that the dog should see going to work as being their play time. To them, finding drugs is the same as playing fetch, if they play too much at home, they slack off at work.
“The notion that these dogs would have to be euthanized because they would not be social enough to find a home in retirement was equally confounding to the Seattle PD, in part because the dogs (in both Seattle and Denver and elsewhere) live full time with their handlers, and continue to do so after their retirement. Seattle PD spokesman Sean Whitcomb spoke to us by phone, telling us, “That’s nonsense. The dogs that we would retire would stay with the handler.”
“The idea that the dogs would require active retraining, or would need to be relieved of service if the law changed, is also disputed by both departments. The Denver PD told us they still retain dogs that had been trained prior to legalization:
We can only speak to what we do at the Denver Police Department. We do not euthanize our dogs, we would never do that. When [Marijuana, MJ] was first legalized we continued to have our dogs trained on 4 odors: MJ, cocaine, Meth, and heroin. Once a dog is trained on an odor, it is very difficult to train them off of it.
We continued to utilize these dogs because we still have a booming black market for MJ. We did begin training with larger amounts of marijuana (10 or more pounds). As these dogs have been retired (they usually stay with their police handlers and become their family pets) we purchased new dogs, a couple of these dogs have not been trained on MJ. So right now we have some dogs on MJ and some dogs off of MJ. This works for us depending on the type of investigation we are conducting.
“Whitcomb, who described the arguments presented by the Macon County Sheriff as “absurd,” told us — similarly — that the Seattle PD does not “retrain” their dogs either, and that they remain part of their force:
When we transitioned from illegal marijuana to legal marijuana some years ago, we didn’t turn over or transition our canine dogs. What we did was discontinue the use of marijuana as a training aid. […]
We continued to train our narcotics detection dogs with things like heroin, meth, cocaine. […] That’s what they live for. They got a reward when they successfully find what they’re trained to find, what they’re trained to do, and so when you stop rewarding for hunting marijuana it ceases over time to be a skill.
“One factual complication, to which Buffett alluded, is that a dog previously trained to sniff marijuana (along with other major drugs) may complicate legal efforts to prosecute people individuals caught carrying legal weed in addition to illegal drugs…
However, the claim that legalization would force drug dogs to be euthanized is a bad-faith argument rooted in logical fallacies that confound police forces experienced in legalized marijuana. As such, we rank it false.”
I actually just heard about this on the radio; the Michael Berry Show on WRNO 99.5. The hospital was trying to harvest his organs, and declared him dead. His father barricaded the door, and held an entire swat team at bay, until his son squeezed his hand, awake from a forced coma.

The swat team brought their own doctors who, after finally securing the room, started to check the kid. Turns out, the kid was fine, after waking up from the coma.

After the swat team doctors checked out the kid, there was a nurse who came in to “check” on the kid. The swat doctors asked to see her orders. Turns out she didn’t have any. What she did have was a 50cc syringe in her pocket, full of a powerful sedative. 5cc’s were enough to put someone in a deep coma. There were 50cc’s in the syringe, more than enough to euthanize the kid.

Swat doctors took her into custody. She refused to talk. They got a warrant and started checking into the deaths happening at the hospital. Turns out, there were a great many “quick decisions” made by hospital staff, for patients to be put into medically induced comas, from which they never woke up. All of which were finalized with organ transplants. Organ transplants which the families of the deceased did not know about.
TL:DR The hospital was euthanizing patients after illegally putting them into medical comas, then harvesting their organs.
I really want to start the discussion on racist dog ownership, and how the current (or almost past) tide of “pitbulls are violent dogs” belief started when black People began using them as protection against white peoples choice of weaponized dog : the German Shepherd.
when i was a child i was sitting in a park with my grandmother. a woman she knew sat by us and a group of kids i sorta knew came by with their dog, a pit.the woman (who was white ) shouted at me , not to go near their dog and they “pitbulls kill children”. my grandmother, a lifetime owner of both Shepherds AND bulls said “ now how did you come to that conclusion? “ and the woman explained all the “stuff she’d read” about it and “heard” about kids being attacked by pitbulls. that “shepherds were kinder, less violent” dogs.
thats when my grandmother turned to her and said “ oh? so you’ve READ about these attacks, and you HEARD about these attacks, but you WATCHED us (black people) get torn to shreds on national television and that doesnt have you thinking Shepherds kill you too, huh?”
the womans face was so twisted it looked like a pretzel. she just didnt know what to say
but all my life i have known about this , and as it’s explained to me, Pitbulls became like the past “Chicken and watermelon” scheme. basically, the dogs got a better bite than the shepherd, and once white folks realized that, they began to feel themselves losing their power again. and since black folks started breeding our own pits, they demonized the dog entirely(just like they did with chicken and watermelon) to keep us from making ANY money.
i’d also like to start a conversation on Hipster “rescues” and their willingness to keep their dogs underweight as to give them the appearance of just being “rescued”.
For those of you who interact with kids on a daily basis, here’s a hot take from your friendly neighborhood elementary school teacher:
Fear of authority is not a replacement for common sense.
I’m gonna make this short because I’m tired. Basically, here’s the deal – kids need routine and they need boundaries and they need rules. That’s all good and healthy.
But if your kid’s only reason for not doing ‘bad stuff’ is “My parents are gonna beat me if I do” then guess what! Your child is not actually well adjusted. You are actively stunting their emotional and psychological growth by not giving them the tools to deal with real-world problems through logical reasoning.
If your child fucks up, it’s YOUR responsibility to sit that child down and start fixing that mistake by, first and foremost, letting them know WHY they did something wrong. Through words. Not through violence.
Because they need real-world tools to learn how to talk themselves into a solution, instead of getting into the habit of beating the shit out of THEMSELVES as a coping tactic long after their parents are gone.
The same goes for emotional and verbal abuse, by the way.
In order to avoid triggering people, I’m putting this below the cut. My opinion of pedophilia:
It’s not an innate orientation. Which does mean I think it can be changed – but that requires that the pedophile in question stop watching child porn and videos titled things like ‘teen gets railed by her father.’ If they stop purposefully reinforcing the dopamine pathways that make them associate children and sex, they’ll be able to get off to grown people like normal human beings – basically, they’ll be able to ping the buttons with simple stimulation.
If they truly ‘can’t help it’ and are ‘non-offending’, however, then they doubly need to stay the hell away from child porn, get constant therapy, and accept with good grace that they can’t safely be within ten feet of a child. IMO, having sexual fantasies about a child is abuse of that child, even if you don’t lay a finger on them.
It’s ironic that these guys (because the vast majority of them are male) dig in their heels and publicly scream that it’s part of their identity and it’s innate and they can’t help it and they’re NOT bad at all, because in doing so, they are reinforcing the convictions of – if not helping to create – other pedophiles.
